Bud-Mbelle

Bud-Mbelle is a public primary school located in Atteridgeville. The community, situated west of Pretoria, was established in 1939 through the efforts of Mrs Myrtle Patricia Atteridge who struggled to improve the living conditions of the residents who used to live in Marabastad and had to be removed from that area. The school now has 22 staff  personnel and around 700 students, many of which lack basic needs and live in informal settlements.
The relationship between the school and Brazil has emerged due to the annual soccer championship organized by the embassies in Pretoria of the GRULAC countries (Group of Latin America and Caribbean) in which each country has its team made up of students from different South African primary schools. Bud-Mdelle Primary School is the school that represents Brazil.
From this contact, an independent group of volunteers came up with the idea of going beyond: learn more about the school, its reality, identify its needs and launch a project that supports the development of activities in order to meet some of  its demands, as well as give the students the opportunity to learn a little about the culture of Brazil, country the students represent with great pride.
